My Story
Since Jojo Lydiah was a 9-year-old, she knew that she wanted to start her own thing. This is the journey that Jojo took, from Dubai at a sales consultant job in a high-end furniture showroom, to Nakuru, Kenya as the gold winner for the Samantha Wedding Bridal Cake Challenge 2020
Jojo Lydiah & The Birth of LHBH
Hi, I’m Jojo Lydiah, founder of the Little Hands Bakehouse and academy. I was introduced to the baking world at a tender age, by my sister.
My elder sister did home science in high school, and I would always offer help on the practicals. We ended up baking 3 wedding cakes at our home, without an oven! So you see, I had a love for baking cakes since childhood.
Fast forward to my adult life, And like everyone else, I had not explored my childhood passion. However, while at Kampala International University, where I studied Education in Biology/ Chemistry, I did a birthday cake for a friend. It quickly got a buzz at school that I was good at baking and this got me to design and bake some birthday cakes for students.
The baking thing at school did not last, and it ended as fast as it had begun. Life took me to Dubai, United Arab Emirates where I worked as a sales consultant in a high-end furniture showroom, and as a receptionist in a gas and oil company for 5 years total.
After 5 years in Dubai, I decided it was time to come back home and start a thing of my own. It took me a while to realize a business gap in my hometown of Nakuru Kenya, but I noticed that working mothers had few daycare options for their children.
It is from this idea that LittleHands Daycare was born. Yes, the name Littlehands was initially meant for the daycare. I loved taking care of children and in no time we had quite some regulars. The daycare grew to 7 staff members.
Did I mention the interior designs at the daycare? They were so child-friendly and fun. Some moms eventually started asking for the space to host their kids’ birthday parties. With this taking its course, birthday cakes started coming to the daycare; As often as 3-5 per week.
Jojo being the childhood cake designer/ baker was never impressed by the cakes. They just had “normal” themes and designs. I knew the kids deserved more. I was looking at having themed cakes with cartoon themes.
Do you see where this goes, yes, the Little Hands Bakehouse was birthed in 2018.

Penetrating The Wedding Cake Industry
Coming from a family that is very artistic, I am no stranger to letting my creative side flourish. We are born pencil artists, we draw a lot. I knew that Litlehands Bakehouse was going to change the cake game in Kenya by bringing artistic ideas to baking.
This meant I had to learn baking as a profession. Kenya at the moment did not have the academy content that I was looking for, so I flew to the US for 6 months for intensive cake training.
I came back confident and eager to start something revolutionary. When I say people loved my cakes in Nakuru, I don’t exaggerate. But honestly, the cakes quickly became favorites to so many. And for the baker to be from Nakuru, phenomenal!
My passion then was for kids’ birthday cakes. Remember the little hands daycare? Eventually, though I grew a burning interest in wedding cakes. Again for top-notch results, I flew to SouthAfrica for another rigorous cake training in June of 2019. But this time, it was specifically for wedding cakes because I quickly realized that brides’ needs were different from the kids’ needs.
By December 2019, I had already done 18 wedding cakes for 18 amazing couples. To date, we have done close to 60 wedding cakes, in just under 3 years.
